Meet Gene blake
Gene Blake is a nurse practitioner who has been taking care of women in the Charleston area since 2008. In 2014, she was introduced to and started practicing functional medicine and hormone optimization, two areas of study that changed her life both personally and professionally. After spending years delivering this type of care in the conventional medical model, it was VERY clear there was a better way to meet her patients' needs. In 2022, with friend and business partner, Erin Copenhaver, she co-founded Rising Tide Wellness.
Rising Tide Wellness is a virtual functional medicine practice created to offer hope, guidance, connection, and answers to patients seeking to take control of their health and be an active participant in their healthcare. For Gene, Rising Tide Wellness is healthcare that makes sense. It gives people hope, and is the most fun and life-giving way to practice medicine. Having experience and training in both functional and conventional medicine gives her the lens to see that it is not an "either/or" but often a "both/and". She loves being able to offer patients more options and the opportunity to be a leader in their own healthcare.
Gene went to Furman University where she was a Division 1 tennis player and received her undergraduate degree in Health and Exercise Science. She received her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in nursing from MUSC. Gene has received extensive training from the Institute of Functional Medicine and Worldlink Medical in functional medicine and hormone optimization.
Gene married her high school sweetheart, Rusty, in 2004. They have three kids, Holman, Geni, and Nora. They have made their home for the last 20 years in Mount Pleasant.
