Meet Jamesy Wood
Jamesy Wood started her yoga journey when she was just 17 years old. She stumbled upon the practice when her high school friend brought her along to a hot vinyasa class in their hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. She was initially drawn to the physical challenges of the practice - but what kept her coming back was the mental clarity and emotional peace it brought her.
In 2015, Jamesy moved to Charleston and by 2016, she took an advanced art of assisting training and got involved with a local studio, offering hands-on assists during classes. It wasn’t long before she felt compelled to start teaching. In June of 2018, Jamesy traveled to Aruba for a month long 200 hour YTT led by master trainers Rachel Brathen and Lara Heimann. That decision changed her life in the best way. Upon returning, she struggled to get hired at local studios and recalls feeling discouraged - but the universe had plans in store. By December of 2018, the arrival of Corepower Yoga Charleston was underway and she began training to be on the opening team of teachers. She has experienced immense growth since then - going from brand new teacher, to studio assistant, to studio manager by October 2020. What always brings her back? Community. Watching students and teachers grow, watching herself grow, and connecting deeply with each other along the way - on and off the mat.
Her vinyasa yoga practice opened a door to a love for movement that she can’t imagine living without. She is currently wrapping up her 300 hour YTT with Corepower Yoga as well as her Personal Training certification through NASM. She believes movement is essential to living a joyful life, and keeping an open mind and open heart to learning and growth is the only way to ensure greatness.
